It's a new day, with new things to be grateful for. If you are reading this, then you have the ability to see. You also have the ability to read, formulate words and understand what those words mean. Hopefully you also have the ability to hear. Last night while TRYING to fall asleep, I laid there contemplating my top 5 sounds.
Most would say things like the sound of their child or spouse saying, "I Love You", a babbling brook or birds singing outside your window, but I went for the sounds a bit different than the usual. Here are some of the sounds I love - they take me back to childhood, a simpler time or a recurring sound I look forward to daily or seasonally.
- The sound of my skates cutting across the ice as I try to stay upright on wobbly feet. Hardly a professional ice skimming sound, but still a sound I love. The booms the ice makes under you is also exciting and horrifying at the same time. (if on a lake or pond- esp. since I fell thru the ice once and was saved by my family doctor. Thank you Dr. Richards!
- Leaves falling from the trees after a slight breeze shakes them free in the fall. The sound of passing another vehicle on a road covered in leaves in the fall that send the leaves flying in all directions is also a sound I love. And sometimes it's like a tunnel effect. So Great!
- Similar to the leaves - ice melting and falling off tree branches after an ice storm makes this tinkling sound that is one of my favorite sounds. Not only is a great sound but it is usually quite beautiful out - everything covered in white/crystal like ice sparkling in the sun after an ice storm. It's like diamonds hanging off everything. LOVELY
- The sound of a saddle when you are horse riding. Some call it a squeaking sound but to me it's more of a rubbing sound. Hard to describe but IYKYK
- My mailbox door being closed. What can I say. I love getting mail. It's a daily surprise - will there be any packages, magazines, perhaps a business opportunity, or just a bill. As a kid - I had over 40 pen pals, thus my love for getting the mail. Now it's extremely rare to get a letter, but online shopping has filled that void (mailbox)!
Your turn - what sounds are uniquely yours that you enjoy hearing? Whether we will ever hear that sound again or not, most of us are blessed to have heard sounds we can recall and be grateful for.
