There is a famous quote by Jim Rohn.
Perhaps you’ve heard it. “You are the average of the five people you spend the
most time with.” Think about the 5 people you spend the most time with. Are
they happy, positive people or are they always grumpy and negative about life?
I’ve been considering this quote
quite a bit lately, mostly in regards to my financial life. I want to be
financially secure. I have been working towards surrounding myself with people
in the industry that I am pursuing. They are successful at what they do, but
not necessarily happy, positive people.
In this day and age of the internet,
we are blessed to have the ability to connect with like-minded people all over
the world. It is easy to connect with old friends and new acquaintances via
Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and many other means. Groups are easy to form
either over the internet like thru Facebook, or arrange face to face groups on
sites like Meetup. There is really no excuse for not connecting with at least 5
people who are living the life you want to live. Reach out to people, myself
included, and make new friends. Friendship is so important but there might also
be a connection made to a mentor who can help you improve your life, your
career, health and possibly your wealth.
Try to connect with a new person a
week. Just say hi, compliment their posting, achievement or other trait you
find admirable. If someone seems to have the life you want, ask them for
advice. People LOVE to feel valued and very rarely would a person not be
receptive to hearing from an admirer.
Life is about taking risks. It’s
easier than ever to take a risk with the anonymity of the internet, but reach
out to new people. You will be pleasantly surprised at the outcome. Find the
people you want to be like and surround yourself with them. It’s one of the
most powerful ways to attract the life you want.
